What to Expect
A Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) experiential offers an opportunity to experience the SP approach through your own embodied, present-moment experience. It can support your learning, growth and development by allowing you to explore how SP techniques and processes feel from the client perspective.
During an experiential, we work with your own experience, which involves noticing and exploring sensations, movement, emotions, thoughts, impulses or other aspects of experience as they emerge in the session.
Because experientials involve working with your own experience, personal or vulnerable material may sometimes emerge. Together, we will consider what feels appropriate to explore and move at a pace that feels manageable. The work is approached gently and with care, while maintaining the boundaries of an experiential and the mentor–learner relationship, rather than a therapeutic relationship.
An experiential may also be followed by a discussion or debrief about the SP process, including how the session unfolded and your experience of the approach.
